Choosing a contractor that has the proper licensing helps to ensure that you as a homeowner are protected and helps to ensure that you have a better experience with your home improvements.  Licensed contractors are background checked and bonded. Better Business Bureau
Check to make sure the contractor you choose is a member of the Better Business Bureau and check the overall rating of a company. Is the company BBB accredited?  If a business is BBB accredited that means that the business meets standards including a commitment to good faith efforts in resolving consumer complaints.
